Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for international cricketer Renuka Singh Thakur, who hails from Rohru in Shimla district, following her remarkable contribution to India’s historic victory in the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
The Chief Minister personally spoke with Renuka Thakur over the phone and congratulated her as well as the entire Indian women’s cricket team for creating history by lifting their maiden World Cup trophy. Sukhu said that he watched both the semi-final and final matches and was deeply impressed by the team’s fighting spirit and consistency. “Himachal Pradesh is proud of Renuka’s achievements, which have brought immense honour to the State,” he said, expressing hope that her success would inspire more girls from the hills to pursue sports with determination.
