Shimla, Jan 3,
The Himachal Pradesh Government has unveiled a proposal to extend the planning jurisdiction of the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC), incorporating additional regions from Kasumpti, Beolia, and Mashobra. The proposed expansion includes parts of Upmohal Dochi from Kasumpti, Upmohal Jadech and Kawara from Beolia, and Mohal Mashobra, Lambodar, and Upmohal Tila from Mashobra. The total area to be added spans approximately 25-51-33 hectares.
As per the Urban Development Department’s notification dated December 20, 2024, the public is invited to submit objections regarding this proposal. Residents and other stakeholders are encouraged to share their views during the consultation period. This move is in line with the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, ensuring a transparent and inclusive decision-making process.
Upon finalization, the expansion is expected to improve urban planning, resource distribution, and development efforts in these newly included areas. Additionally, the government has announced a three-year exemption from property taxes for land and buildings within the expanded zones once they are included in the SMC’s planning jurisdiction. Existing residents will maintain their customary rights as recorded.
Members of the public can submit objections within the specified timeline to ensure all concerns are considered before the formal inclusion of these areas into the Shimla Municipal Corporation.
