Shimla, June 4,
With a recent increase in COVID-19 cases reported across the country, the Himachal Pradesh Health Department has issued a comprehensive advisory emphasizing key precautionary measures for the public. The state is urging mandatory mask-wearing within hospital premises, strongly recommending masks for senior citizens, children, and individuals with co-morbidities in crowded places, and stressing the importance of maintaining adequate social distancing in public areas.
The advisory, released by the Mission Director (NHM) and approved by the Secretary (Health) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, highlights the potential for the rising national caseload to impact the state in the near future. Beyond mask usage and social distancing, the department also advises practicing proper hand hygiene, including frequent washing with soap and use of hand sanitizers. Individuals experiencing influenza-like symptoms such as cough, cold, or fever are urged to promptly report to the nearest health facility for medical check-ups and avoid close contact with others, particularly vulnerable groups like the elderly, young children, and pregnant women. Furthermore, regular disinfection of frequently touched surfaces like door handles, railings, and public utility areas is also recommended.
While the Health Department is already actively monitoring cases of influenza and the common cold reported at various healthcare facilities, this new advisory underscores the need for heightened vigilance from both healthcare facilities and the general public.
