Today, the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly remembered former Union Minister Sukh Ram as the pioneer of the Telecom Revolution in India and Himachal. On the first day of the Monsoon Session, Members were paying obituary references to the demise of former members Pt Sukh Ram, Mast Ram, Roop Singh Chauhan and Parveen Sharma.
Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Revenue Minister Mohinder Singh, Rural Development Minister Virender Kanwar Congress member Asha Kumari, Former Congress president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and other members paid tributes to the demised member. All the members mentioned the role of Pt Sukh Ram as the pioneer of the Telecom Revolution who ended the quota Raj in the distribution of connections and revolutionized the rural Telephony, BroadBand, 2G and 3 G mobile and landline and landless telephone services in the state.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that Pt Sukh Ram was ‘Mashiyha’ of the Telecom revolution as he introduced STD and ISD telecom services in the country. Sukhu said that the increasing suicidal tendency among political leaders is a matter of concern as former Congress MLA Mast Ram and Member of Parliament Ram Swaroop ended their lives after committing suicide.
Suresh Bhardwaj said that Parveen Sharma was remanded in jail for 14 days during emergency under MISA and DIR (Defence India Rule). Later the house also observed a two silence in their respect.
