HP Govt. revokes closure of degree college Ronhat; stipend confines to admitted pupils
Shimla, June 5,
Himachal Pradesh Government has withdrawn its decision to close Government College Ronhat in Sirmaur district, reversing an earlier move to merge the institution with Government College Nahan under the higher education rationalisation exercise.
A notice issued by the college principal on June 4 cancelled the June 1 admission notification that had directed students to seek admission in Nahan. While the college would continue to function, second and third-year students may still take admission in Government College Nahan through the online process for the 2026-27 academic session.
The notice clarified that only students opting for admission in Nahan would be eligible for the special stipend of Rs 5,000 per month announced for students affected by college mergers. Those choosing any other government college will not receive the benefit.
Government records show that Government College Ronhat has 70 students, including 50 in the first and second years.
The decision to retain the college is expected to bring relief to students and residents of the remote border area, who had opposed the proposed merger.
