HP Govt to not extend lease of Hotel wildflower hall to Oberoi Group : Mins

The Himachal Pradesh Government has declared its decision not to extend the lease of the Hotel WildflowerHall and the associated 118 bigha estate to Oberoi group. Industry Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan, addressing the media during a cabinet briefing, stated that despite efforts to reclaim possession from the Oberoi Group, the government would no longer retain this prime property with EIH Ltd. Chauhan emphasized that, in the public interest, the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government would not grant further lease of hotel Wildflower Hall to the renowned hospitality company.
Noteworthy that the state government recently won a two-decade-old legal battle, with the arbitration award favoring the government. On November 17 the Tourism secretary issued executive orders for the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation to reclaim the property, appointing IAS officer Mansi Sahai as the administrator.
On Saturday, the officials tried to take possession of the said property, however remained unsuccessful as the Oberoi Group was granted a stay on the proceedings by the HP High court.
Reportedly as per EIH Ltd, the HPTDC officials left Wildflower Hall empty-handed, unable to obtain possession from the hospitality unit.
Now the government aims to get the stay by the Himachal Pradesh High Court vacated, as a single bench issued a status quo on the eviction executive order on November 18. The matter is now listed on November 21
It may be noted that in October 2022, a division bench of the High Court ruled in favor of the state government, supporting the arbitration award.
