A division bench comprising Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sushil Kukreja observed that one of the individuals had uploaded a video on Facebook containing statements regarding the judicial system. The court reviewed the Hindi and English transcriptions of the video, along with a pen drive containing the footage.
The court found certain remarks in the video to be prima facie contemptuous and potentially in violation of the Contempt of Courts Act. Statements made by both respondents in the video were noted for their serious nature, prompting the court to take action to safeguard the dignity of the judiciary.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the court issued show-cause notices to the individuals, asking them to explain why they should not face criminal contempt proceedings. Additionally, the court directed its Registry to provide a complete paper book of the case to the Advocate General, Anup Rattan, and his legal team.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on April 7, 2025.
