HP police secures top National rankings in crime tracking and justice systems
Shimla, Oct 26
The Himachal Pradesh Police has achieved remarkable recognition on the national stage by securing top ranks in multiple critical crime tracking and justice systems. These “rule of law” measures have been closely monitored by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as part of the Pragati initiative, highlighting the state’s commitment to effective law enforcement.
A spokesperson informed that Himachal Pradesh Police has proven its mettle by clinching the first position among Hilly States for three consecutive years – 2020, 2021, and 2022. The accomplishment is attributed to the successful implementation of the Crime & Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), a vital component of modern policing.
The latest CCTNS PRAGATI ranking has further solidified Himachal Pradesh Police’s reputation, with the state securing the first rank among Hilly & North East States and the second rank at the All India level. This remarkable feat has propelled Himachal Pradesh ahead of numerous advanced states that previously dominated the national CCTNS performance, they stated.
In the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) ranking released by the National Crime Record Bureau, Himachal Pradesh Police has emerged as the leader among Hilly States and secured the second rank at the All India level with 96.7 marks. The first place was secured by Haryana state which got 100 marks. Another hill state Uttrakhand secured third spot with 85.4 marks.
ICJS is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at facilitating the seamless exchange of data and information among various pillars of the criminal justice system, including courts, police, jails, and forensic science laboratories.
The spokesperson added that Himachal Pradesh Police has demonstrated a strong commitment to handling cases of sexual offences against women and children, registered under section 376 IPC and/or the POCSO Act. The state boasts an impressive compliance rate of 90.53%, earning it the fifth rank in the national ranking for the Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO). States figuring above Himachal on this front are Goa, Andaman and Nicobar, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Uttar Pradesh.
These remarkable achievements can be attributed to the tireless dedication of field-level police officers and the state-level CCTNS team, all operating under the able guidance of senior officers involved in the CCTNS project implementation, stated the state police Chief.
