HP schools disaster preparedness syllabus to get a revamp, committee notified

The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to strengthen disaster preparedness education in schools. In the matter a special committee is formed to create a new syllabus covering earthquakes, floods, landslides, and other emergencies.
According to Himachal Pradesh Secretary Revenue and Disaster management, the current disaster management (DM) syllabus is deemed inadequate.
New lessons should target all grades (kindergarten to high school) and equip students with knowledge and skills for before, during, and after disasters, they stated.
Adding that, the goal is to improve student safety during emergencies. Experts from education boards and directorates to be involved in developing the new syllabus. The revised syllabus is expected to be ready within six months for implementation in schools.
In a media communique it was informed that the committee comprises of Director-cum-Special Secretary (Rev-DM) to the GoHP as Chairman, Secretary, HPBoSE, Dharmshala, Director, Higher Education, Director Elementary Action, Principal, SCERT-Solan, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, HP and Joint Secretary (Rev-DM) to the GoHP as members.
