With the monsoon season approaching, the Himachal Pradesh government has intensified its preparedness to minimize the impact of heavy rains, floods, and landslides across the state.
Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting with district administrations and various departments to assess the state’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon season.
During the meeting, Pant stressed the need for stronger coordination among departments, timely dissemination of weather warnings, effective flood-control measures, and a robust emergency response system. He directed officials to further strengthen preparedness in vulnerable areas to reduce loss of life and property during the rainy season.
The Chief Secretary instructed district authorities to ensure adequate stockpiling of food supplies and emergency fuel in remote and disaster-prone regions that could be cut off during heavy rainfall. He also directed dam management authorities to strictly follow warning protocols and provide advance information to local residents before releasing excess water from reservoirs.

Pant said the state government was giving special attention to prompt rescue and relief operations during emergencies. He noted that the Revenue and Disaster Management Departments were continuously monitoring weather conditions and coordinating preparedness efforts across the state.
The meeting was informed about the latest monsoon forecasts and warning systems by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Central Water Commission also briefed officials on flood forecasting mechanisms and early warning systems.
Representatives of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) outlined their preparedness plans and availability of rescue equipment. Officials from the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department, Home Guards, Civil Defence and Fire Services also presented details of measures being taken to tackle monsoon-related emergencies.
Earlier, Dr. Pushpendra Rana, Director and Special Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management, gave a detailed presentation on the state’s monsoon preparedness strategy.
Senior officials from the Health, Police, Electricity, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, Animal Husbandry, Food and Civil Supplies, and Transport departments attended the review meeting.
