A junior engineer in the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000, said officials of the state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau.
Additional Director General of SV&ACB Anurag Garg said in a statement issued here today that a JE, posted at Gangath in Kangra district, demanded bribe from a person who had set up a new factory. The accused sought the bribe from the complainant in lieu of making an inspection report which was needed for obtaining an electricity connection in the factory.
“A case against the JE has been registered at the vigilance police station at Dharamshala and further investigations is on,” Garg. said.
Another HPSEB officer charge-sheeted
The SV&ACB also filed a challen in the Special court Kullu against annother HPSEB official on Wedneday who was arrested last year while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 while being posted at Banjar in Kullu, the ADG said.
The accused, who was then an assistant engineer, had demanded a total of Rs 50,000 from a person for not isconnecting the latter’s electricity connection which was liable to be disconnected for surpassing the
sanctioned load, Garg said. The accused engineer also had caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the first instalment of the bribe.
“During the course of investigation, among other things, a forensic report on the voice recordings related to the bribery demand was
obtained,” , the agency official informed
