The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is facing scrutiny after a viral video emerged showing an employee of the Dharampur Depot making serious allegations against the local management. The video, reportedly recorded minutes before the employee’s death in a hospital, features the driver, Sanjay, accusing the Depot Manager of harassment and mistreatment.
Sanjay, who was posted as a driver at the Dharampur Depot, hailed from Kullu. It is reported that he took his own life by consuming poison. In the video, he has been heard saying that had been tortured, threatened with suspension, and had not been paid his dues.
In response to the incident, HRTC Managing Director Rohan Chand Thakur, IAS, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of the organization’s support. He also announced an inquiry into the matter, which will be conducted by the Divisional Manager, Mandi. The statement urged everyone to wait for the preliminary findings before jumping to conclusions.
The enquiry has assigned to hand over a report within 7 days.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, raised concerns over the tragic incident. He termed the situation as “extremely unfortunate” and expressed grief over the driver’s death. “The suicide of the bus driver in Dharampur, Mandi, due to alleged harassment is deeply saddening. May the soul rest in peace and may the family find the strength to bear this loss,” he said.
The HRTC management is committed to ensuring transparency as the investigation unfolds, stated the Managing Director.
