IGMC notifies reopening of Six Super-Specialty OPDs at Chamiana

The Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, has announced the relocation of six super-specialty outpatient departments (OPDs) to the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) at Chamiana from December 23 onwards.
The move, which includes services in Neurology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, and Gastroenterology, is in compliance with a recent order from the High Court dated December 18, 2024, which mandated the relocation of these services.
As per the office order issued on December 21, 2024, these OPDs, which were previously operating at IGMC, will now be run at the AIMSS Shimla-06 facility, located at Chamiana, starting from December 23, 2024 (Monday).
Noteworthy that the Himachal Pradesh High Court, led by the bench of Acting Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Satyen Vaidya, had given its approval for the phased shift of six super specialty Outpatient Departments (OPDs) from IGMC Shimla to the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty (AIMSS) at Chamiyana.

In response to the challenges faced, such as inadequate staffing and transport facilities, the court has also directed the deployment of 35 nurses from the Trauma Centre at IGMC Shimla to AIMSS. Furthermore, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has committed to running shuttle bus services to facilitate patient movement. ” The Managing Director, HRTC, shall start plying the buses, as and when a request is made by the Medical Superintendent/Principal of the AIMSS,” has noted the court in the order.
The Principal of AIMSS Shimla-06 stated that the relocation aims to streamline operations and provide better access to specialized medical services for patients in the region. This move is expected to enhance the quality of care and improve patient flow at both institutions.
