Shimla, Aug 22,
Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the Hindenburg allegations, the Congress party and INDIA block parties have intensified demands for accountability, staging a nationwide protest on August 22, 2024. In Shimla, the State Congress Committee will organized a dharna in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Chhota Shimla, scheduled for 11:30 am. This protest aligns with the broader call from the INDIA bloc political parties to cordon ED offices across the country, accusing the agency of inaction against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband for alleged investments in offshore funds connected to Adani Group’s shell companies in tax havens.
The protests are part of a larger effort by the Congress to draw attention to what they claim is a cozy relationship between SEBI and Adani, demanding a thorough investigation through a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has emphasized the need for immediate action, insisting that the Modi government seek Buch’s resignation and initiate a JPC probe.
In Shimla, the INDIA protest also highlights grievances against the ED, accusing the agency of targeting small business owners, such as jewellers and contractors, during state assembly by-elections, while allegedly being lenient towards larger corporate entities. The demonstration in Shimla is expected to draw significant attention as party workers gather in response to the nationwide call to hold the central agency accountable.
