Former Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur was designated as leader of Opposition in the Vidhansabha, a notification issued by the Secretary, Yash Paul Sharma confirmed.
A single line notification issued by Secretary Vidhansabha said that Pro-tem Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has recognized Jai Ram Thakur, Member, Legislative Assembly as the Leader of Opposition in the Fourteenth Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
It is worthwhile to mention that BJP Legislative party meeting held at Holiday home hotel on Sunday elected Thakur as BJP Legislative party leader.
The Saffron party lost Vidhansabha poll in the recent state assembly general election, got 25 seats in 68 member unicameral house. The strength of opposition is two members more than required one third strength for LOP.
Congress deputy Chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri was designated as LOP by 13 th state legislative assembly despite it had two members less than the strength. However later, Congress garnered one Assembly seat in bye election2021 with one CPI(M) member it acquired the number.
Noteworthy that the LOP is considered equal to Member of council of ministers and gets the same Salary and perks and a chamber in state assembly and entitled for VVIP accomodation.
