In a development for Himachal Pradesh’s judiciary, Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma were today sworn in as Judges of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice G. S. Sandhawalia in a dignified ceremony at the High Court, Shimla, attended by sitting judges, senior lawyers, and family members.
Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj, born on August 20, 1969, began his legal career in 1994 under Senior Advocate Arun Kumar Goel, who later became a High Court Judge. With decades of experience practicing before the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Bhardwaj has developed expertise across multiple branches of law. His elevation to the bench is seen as a boost to the state’s judicial capacity.
Justice Romesh Verma, born on May 7, 1974, started his legal practice in 1999 under the guidance of his father, Senior Advocate Ghanshyam Dass Verma. Known for his deep legal insight and long-standing experience in varied branches of law, Verma’s appointment strengthens the High Court’s ability to deliver timely justice.
The ceremony was graced by Justice Deepak Gupta, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, retired judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the Lokayukta of Himachal Pradesh, senior legal figures including the Advocate General, Bar Council Chairman, High Court Bar Association President, and other dignitaries.
The addition of Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma is expected to reinforce judicial efficiency and bolster the delivery of justice across Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant milestone for the state’s legal system.
