Kaul Singh Thakur–Sukhu comparison: Congress leader highlights differences with Virbhadra Singh’s leadership style
Shimla, April 8,
Senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur on Tuesday said Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu “cannot be compared” to former CM Virbhadra Singh, drawing a sharp contrast in leadership styles and triggering fresh political chatter within the party.
Speaking at a public programme, Thakur recalled his long association with Virbhadra Singh, describing him as a decisive and accessible administrator who maintained a strong connect with party workers and the public. In contrast, he indicated that the current dispensation lacks similar responsiveness.
He pointed to administrative delays and a perceived disconnect with grassroots workers, suggesting that these factors are contributing to dissatisfaction within party ranks. The remarks are being viewed as a direct critique of the functioning of the present leadership.

The statement assumes significance amid emerging signs of internal unease within the Himachal Pradesh Congress, with senior voices increasingly going public with their concerns. By invoking the Virbhadra Singh era as a benchmark, Thakur has effectively questioned the current leadership’s ability to maintain organisational cohesion and governance efficiency.
Political observers believe such comments from a veteran leader could add pressure on the state leadership to address internal concerns and strengthen coordination with party workers.
The Congress leadership has not officially responded to the remarks so far.
