With a sharp rise in tourist inflow and vehicular movement across Himachal Pradesh during the summer season, incidents of road rage, hooliganism and traffic violations are increasingly posing a challenge for the police administration and commuters alike.
Two separate incidents reported in Shimla district during the past 24 hours have once again highlighted the growing menace of aggressive behaviour and intoxicated youths on roads.
According to a press note issued by Shimla Police, a case was registered at Police Station West on the complaint of Ashish Sharma, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) working with the 108 ambulance service.
The complainant alleged that on the night of May 23 near Old Barrier Petrol Pump, Shimla, two youths identified as Apurav and Sunil Kumar wrongfully stopped the ambulance, abused and assaulted the ambulance staff.
Earlier, the ambulance staff had claimed that the vehicle remained stranded for several minutes as a group of youths were fighting on the road. Despite repeated sirens and horn warnings, the men allegedly refused to give way and later manhandled the EMT, even tearing his clothes.
Police reached the spot after the emergency staff alerted authorities through the emergency helpline. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered and investigation is underway.
In another incident, Police Station Nerwa registered a case on the complaint of Rahul, a resident of Nerwa and employee at Goyal Motors.
The complainant alleged that Deepak and Ajay wrongfully restrained and abused him on the road near the Goyal Motor showroom at Rana Kyar, Nerwa, on Saturday evening. Police are investigating the matter.
