Shimla, March 3,
After two days of relatively clear weather, overcast conditions, snowfall, and a persistent cold wave continue to disrupt life across Himachal Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread fresh rain, snowfall, lightning, and thunderstorms at isolated places over the next 24 hours.
Keylong, in the Lahaul-Spiti district, recorded the lowest temperature in the state at a bone-chilling -11°C, while higher reaches plunged even further to between -15°C and -20°C. Heavy snowfall and plummeting temperatures have left many parts of Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, and Kinnaur districts cut off from the rest of the state.
In the state capital, Shimla, the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.2°C. Other key stations reported the following minimum temperatures: Jubberhatti (8.2°C), Bhuntar (5.0°C), Manali (1.6°C), Kalpa (-2.1°C), Solan (5.0°C), Dalhousie (6.3°C), Dharamshala (4.2°C), Kangra (9.6°C), Mandi (8.7°C), Nahan (10.5°C), Una (6.7°C), Bilaspur (9.3°C), while data from Hamirpur was not available.
The IMD has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain at isolated pockets in Shimla city and its adjoining areas. Light snow is expected at a few places in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts, as well as over the higher reaches of Chamba, Mandi, Kangra, and Kullu districts. Light rain is also likely at a few places in Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and the remaining parts of Chamba, Mandi, Kangra, and Kullu districts. Isolated light rain is anticipated in the remaining districts of the state.
The ongoing cold wave and snowfall have severely impacted daily life, disrupting transportation and communication networks in several regions. Residents in higher altitudes are bracing for more snowfall and freezing temperatures, while lower regions prepare for rain and thunderstorms.
The IMD has advised residents to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions as the state braces for another round of inclement weather.
