The district Administration Chamba is trying to showcase the natural Khajjiar lake of Chamba district on the International map as the experts of IIT Mandi has been roped in to solve the problem of increasing silt and muck in the water body to further increase its scenic beauty.
After Dalhousie and Chamba, the tourist resort Khajjiar to be brought on the international tourist map with the help of Rs 8.50 lakh Chambayal project. This was stated by the member of Assembly Pawan Nayar while inaugurating an exhibition on Rang Mahaul Chamba and Tourist resort Dalhousie at Chamba today.
Stressing the need to develop a new tourism destination in the Chamba district legislator said while unveiling an exhibition on Khajjiar and sale centre at Chamba today.
Member of Assembly said that traditional products and art of Chamba including Chamba Rumal should be exhibited on the international map. He said that such artifacts and products should also be showcased on the major tourist spots so that tourists could understand and buy their aesthetic values.
Hailing the efforts of the Women self-help groups to popularise the traditional food, arts, and culture of Chamba he said that State Government would promote tourism and adventure sports activity in the district. Nayar said that Khajyar could also be developed as emerging paragliding center as now two sites have been identified near this hill station. A rest house and road networks are also being improved to
this tourist center to facilitate the increase in the footfall of tourists.
Deputy Commissioner Chamba D C Rana said that under the Chambayal project training would be imparted to SHGs to train them to use the machines and other tools while creating the traditional artifacts and products being made by the people. He stressed the need to develop new techniques for creativity in cultural and traditional arts.
To rid of the problem of silt in the Khajiyar lake, the district administration is taking the assistance of IIT Mandi experts so that it could be brought on the international tourist map along with Dalhousie and other tourist circuits which would be assimilated in the entire package.
Chamba after, Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Kangra-Dharmshala tourists circuits is one of the popular hill stations which attract around 10.45 lakh international and domestic tourists during the Winter and Summer tourist season.
