Light rain and cloudy weather across parts of Himachal Pradesh brought much-needed relief from the intense heat that has gripped the state over the past several weeks.
Shimla and its adjoining areas remained pleasant on Friday as clouds hovered over the region and intermittent showers were reported from a few locations.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rainfall occurred at isolated places across the state during the past 24 hours.
Nahan recorded the highest rainfall at 14.2 mm, followed by Paonta Sahib 6.4 mm, Dhaulakuan 3.5 mm, Kukumseri 2.1 mm, and Keylong and Chamba 2 mm each. Thunderstorm activity was reported in Nahan, while Neri recorded gusty winds of 37 kmph.
Despite the change in weather, temperatures remained high in many parts of the state. Una continued to sizzle at 43.2 degrees Celsius, the highest maximum temperature recorded in Himachal Pradesh. Bilaspur recorded 41.0 degrees Celsius, Neri 40.0 degrees Celsius, Paonta Sahib 38.0 degrees Celsius, Mandi and Nahan 37.0 degrees Celsius each, Sundernagar 37.2 degrees Celsius, Kangra 36.8 degrees Celsius, Solan 35.4 degrees Celsius and Dharamshala 35.0 degrees Celsius. Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 29.0 degrees Celsius.
In the higher reaches, cooler conditions prevailed with Keylong recording the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 3.5 degrees Celsius. Kukumseri recorded 4.3 degrees Celsius, Tabo 8.8 degrees Celsius, Kalpa 10.0 degrees Celsius and Manali 11.2 degrees Celsius. Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 17.4 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala 19.8 degrees Celsius and Mandi 20.1 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at isolated places over the next two days under the influence of an active western disturbance.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph are likely at isolated places, while hailstorm activity may also occur in some areas. The weather activity is expected to bring further relief from the prevailing heat conditions across the state.
