After a spell of rain and snowfall earlier this week, Himachal Pradesh experienced a marginal rise in night temperatures, offering brief respite from the intense chill that had gripped the hill state. The Meteorological Department reported that the average minimum temperature across Himachal improved by about 0.2°C in the past 24 hours, marking the beginning of a mild warming phase.
In the state capital Shimla, the temperature rose notably by 1.8°C, settling at 10.2°C, which is 1.4°C above normal for this time of year. The warming trend extended to several other parts of the state as well. Dharamshala recorded 12.2°C, up by 1.8°C, while Una, known for its relatively warmer conditions, logged 12.0°C, showing a 0.3°C rise and remaining 3.0°C above normal.
Kalpa in Kinnaur also showed signs of recovery from the cold wave, with the minimum temperature improving by 1.2°C to 1.4°C, whereas Keylong, the coldest district headquarters, reported -2.9°C, up by 0.3°C from the previous night. Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti registered a sharp improvement of 3.1°C, settling at -2.4°C, indicating a gradual moderation even in the higher altitudes.
Meanwhile, Sundernagar recorded 8.7°C, slightly lower than yesterday but still above normal, and Bilaspur registered 12.5°C, showing a modest increase. Solan (7.4°C) and Palampur (8.0°C) remained relatively steady, while Mandi saw a slight dip to 9.6°C. Paonta Sahib remained the warmest in the plains at 16.0°C, despite a 2°C decline.
No precipitation was recorded anywhere in the state during the last 24 hours. Meteorological officials attributed the overall improvement in temperatures to clear skies and atmospheric stabilization, which allow daytime solar radiation to retain warmth during the night.
