Shimla, June 3
District Administration and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Lahaul & Spiti has announced the reopening of NH-505 (Kaza – Gramphu Road) following extensive snow clearance efforts.
In a press release issued here today both the authorities disclosed that after improved road conditions, the route has been opened. Also warning that commuters should abide the travel advisory to ensure the safety and smooth passage.
The NH-505 road, specifically the Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphu stretch, is now open to the general public. This reopening comes after a period of heavy snowfall that had previously obstructed the route.
Traffic on the Lossar – Gramphu stretch is permitted for 4×4, 4×2, HMV vehicles, and bikes from both directions.
Vehicles are allowed to travel between 5:00 AM and 2:00 PM only. The Police Department will oversee traffic management to ensure safe and regulated movement.
Travelers should be aware that the Gramphu to Lossar road is prone to rock falls and avalanches, and it is crucial to exercise extreme caution. Vehicle movement will depend on current weather and road conditions, which can change rapidly in this region. It is essential for vehicles to meet all specifications and requirements as mentioned in the advisory.
Travelers should ensure their vehicles are well-prepared, with sufficient fuel, proper machinery, and appropriate tire conditions.
Non-skid chains and a shovel should be part of the travel gear. Stoppages on the Gramphu to Lossar route should be minimized to prevent traffic build-up and ensure continuous flow.
Hotel and homestay owners are requested to inform their guests about the new regulations and safety advisories. In case of emergencies, travelers can contact the District Emergency Operation Centre at +91 94594-61355, 01900-202509 / 510 / 517, or Toll-Free No. – 1077.
