The rescue and search operation in flood affected areas of Himachal Pradesh successfully recovered five bodies on the ninth day as 33 reported missing.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap informed that sofar 15 dead bodies have been recovered so far in Shimla district. In the search operation enters its ninth day, efforts continue to locate missing persons following the devastating cloudburst and flash floods in Samej Khud, Himachal Pradesh.
On Friday morning, five bodies were recovered in the Doghri area near the Sunni Dam. Preliminary reports suggest that two of the bodies are male, one is a 14-15-year-old girl and the fourth, a mutilated body, is believed to be that of a woman.
In addition to these recoveries, a body identified as Kalpana Kumari, a worker from the Greenko Hydro Project, was found in Nogli. The body has been sent to Rampur Hospital for post-mortem.
To date, 15 bodies have been recovered from the affected areas. The search operation, led by the Shimla district police in coordination with state police, NDRF, and Home Guard personnel, now extends up to Doghri, 124 km from the site of the cloudburst.
In Bagipul, the second body of a four-member family, missing since the disaster, was recovered. The body of Revta Devi, wife of Jiyalal Bisht, was found in Luhri and has been identified by her brother-in-law, Prem Lal. Two members of the family remain missing.
The state is under an orange alert for heavy rain, with significant rainfall recorded across various regions: Jogindernagar (160.0 mm), Dharamshala (112.4 mm), and Shimla (60.5 mm). This has led to over 100 road closures due to landslides.
Total 128 roads have closed down due incessant weather, including 16 in Kullu, 21 in Shimla, 5 in Kangra, 4 in Kinnaur distrcit. 44 DTR and 64 water supply schemes also effected.
In Shimla, roads such as Mehli, Taradevi-Bharyal, and Shimla-Chakkar are notably affected by the recent heavy rains. Additionally, 149 electricity transformers and 47 water supply schemes are disrupted. The Meteorological Center Shimla forecasts continued heavy rainfall for August 9th and 10th, with a yellow alert issued for August 11th to 15th, emphasizing the need for ongoing vigilance and preparedness.
In New Shimla sector -3 a retaining wall cave in near a building nine Shimla MC and SDRF personnel was deployed to clear the debris. Advocated SK Sharma informed that boulders and debris of retaining wall cave in backyard of his building which is posing danger to a house.
