Not even a single University and any autonomous of H.P. state institution figured in NAAC ‘A’ plus rankings display the latest National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) report.
The Himachal Pradesh University Shimla topped the entire state after getting a 3.21 Cumulative Grade Point. Shoolini University, located in Solan, has been at number two in state NAAC, ranking 2.92 cumulative grade points.
NAAC report indicates that basic facilities in private colleges are said to be better than the government. Central University Dharamshala is third with 2.78 CGPA, Chitkara University fourth with 2.71, JP University is fifth with 2.66 CGPA, Manav Bharati University sixth with 2.14 CGPA, Maharaja Agrasen University is seventh with 2.13 CGPA and Eternal University with 2.14 CGPA ranked eighth.
On the other hand, 296 colleges in Himachal Pradesh do not have NAAC accreditation. only 23 out of 42 universities are recognized by NAAC. However, applications are received for NAAC accreditation from 69 colleges.
According to the NAAC report, the enrollment of students in the state colleges has increased during the last few years. In most colleges, the admission process is going on online. Institutions that enrol students from the weaker section or recognized institutions get more grants from the Central Government. The Ministry of Education gives grants for various works. Under this, a budget is allocated to develop infrastructure, build laboratories and grounds and purchase various equipment.
