NTPC’s 800 MW Koldam Hydro Power Station located in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh is organizing a four weeks long Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) program at its project’s township this week, Head of the Project’s HR department Prem Lata, said that 45 girl students from neighboring 08 Government Schools are participating in this program. Since it is a residential program, NTPC Koldam is taking care of the day to day requirements of the participants like boarding, lodging, clothing, stationery etc she said. The schedule of activities has been planned at the power station through a specially designed curriculum in association with an NGO named “Barefoot” college.
Activities for the participants will also include Yoga, self defense, academics, sports, fine arts, indoor & outdoor games and other topics on environment, computer education, gender studies etc she told. The participants shall be given tips for physical fitness and good health under Yoga and self defense activities. They shall be given the opportunity to take part in various games to improve physical fitness. The students shall learn to interact with each other for developing team spirit and improve communication skills in the class room training programs. The model of the activities, she said, had been designed for personality development and overall grooming of the girls for preparing them to face future challenges.
The major objective of this program was uplifting the lives of girl students from remote villages to help them become self reliant by giving them exposure to quality inputs related to academics, personality development, health, hygiene and grooming. Selection of students for this program, she said had been done through a base line survey in association with BAREFOOT an NGO conducting the program.
With Faculty members of NGO “Barefoot” college, members of ladies club “Sangini Sangh” and CISF have been associated with the GEM program to help the participants mingle and adjust to the new environment and create memories to cherish.
