The 108 National Ambulance Service (NAS), operated by Medswan Foundation, has handled over 4,01,750 medical emergencies in the last three years, averaging one every four minutes, and provided free, round-the-clock assistance across Himachal Pradesh. This life-saving initiative, guided by the National Health Mission (NHM) and the state government, marked its third anniversary today, celebrating an unwavering commitment to saving lives in the hill state.
Sachin Patyal, Ambulance Manager of NAS-108, highlighted that the service, supported by 248 ambulances under NAS-108 and 148 under JSSK-102, has responded to over 2,000 calls daily, managing 375 emergencies on average, including three childbirths each day. In its mission to provide accessible healthcare, NAS-108 has successfully handled 73,770 pregnancy-related emergencies and safely assisted in 2,873 deliveries, while ensuring dignity and care for mothers in need.
Patyal further shared that the service has attended to over 41,000 respiratory cases, 30,000+ cardiac emergencies, 15,500+ trauma incidents, and 5,000 stroke-related emergencies. It has also provided critical support in 25,250 police-related and 1,790 fire-related emergencies, showcasing its comprehensive role in addressing various crises. Additionally, the 102 Ambulance Service has provided drop-back services to more than 92,970 beneficiaries in the same period, significantly strengthening maternal and child healthcare across the state.
A dedicated team of approximately 1,500 individuals, including pilots and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), operates these services in Himachal Pradesh, ensuring seamless and efficient emergency response. Patyal lauded their tireless efforts, stating that their dedication has not only saved countless lives but also brought dignity and care to patients.
Looking ahead, Patyal revealed that Medswan Foundation, in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Government, plans to replace older ambulances in a phased manner to enhance operations further.
