NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company and a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has announced the full commercial operation of its Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project (4×200 MW) in Himachal Pradesh.
The final Unit#4 (200 MW) successfully completed its trial run and commenced commercial operations at 00:00 hours on April 16, 2025. The development follows the earlier commissioning of Unit#1, Unit#2, and Unit#3, all of which began commercial operations on April 1, 2025. With this milestone, the entire 800 MW capacity of the Parbati-II Project has now been fully operationalized and integrated into NHPC’s portfolio.

In an official regulatory filing to BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited, NHPC’s commercial team confirmed the achievement, stating:
“After successful completion of the trial run, NHPC declares commercial operation (COD) of Unit#4 (200 MW) of Parbati-II HE Project (4×200 MW), Himachal Pradesh from 00:00 hours on 16.04.2025.”
Strategically located in the rugged terrains of the Kullu district, the Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project stands as a testament to NHPC’s technical prowess and resilience. Overcoming challenges such as difficult mountainous geography and severe weather conditions, the successful commissioning of the project is a significant achievement for India’s renewable energy sector.
Market analysts suggest that the addition of 800 MW clean energy capacity is likely to positively impact NHPC’s financial performance and could potentially raise its market capitalization to approximately ₹88,000 crore.
The Parbati-II Project’s full-scale operation is expected to play a vital role in bolstering India’s hydropower output, supporting grid stability, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. It also aligns with the Government of India’s vision of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
