R.S. Bali defends HPTDC property management in Vidhan Sabha

Congress MLA R.S. Bali strongly countered allegations made by BJP MLAs in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, asserting that the state government has no plans to sell Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) properties. Bali highlighted the corporation’s record turnover of ₹109 crore during the 2022-23 period, emphasizing its strong financial performance despite challenges.

Responding to accusations, Bali referred to two affidavits filed by HPTDC in court, clarifying that no properties were being sold to private individuals. He accused the BJP of misinterpreting the situation and presenting baseless claims. Bali also highlighted recent tourism investments, such as a ₹4.29 crore property in Chamba, previously unused for two years, now fully operational under HPTDC.

In addition, Bali pointed to the ₹9.35 crore Tulip Garden in Kangra, now managed by the Forest Department for better upkeep. Praising HPTDC employees, he noted their dedication to public service during the devastation caused by heavy rains in 2023. He also informed the House that ₹35 crore had been released to clear pending dues for HPTDC employees, with an additional ₹30-35 crore expected soon.

Bali rejected BJP’s claims that the government was withholding information and presented the affidavits in the assembly to prove the allegations baseless. He challenged BJP MLAs to file a case if they believed false affidavits had been submitted in court, particularly regarding HPTDC units allegedly operating at a loss despite high visitor turnout.

Countering Bali’s statements, BJP MLA Randhir Sharma questioned why the court ordered the attachment of Himachal Pradesh Bhavan and why properties like Chail Palace, Dhauladhar, Manali, and Dalhousie were reported as losses despite attracting significant visitors.
