Rain-fury likely to increase : State police kept on heightened alert
Shimla, Aug 12
The Himachal Pradesh Government has taken proactive measures by putting the state police force on high alert due to the anticipated increase in rain fury and persistent monsoon rainfall.
A press release issued by the State’s Director General of Police, Sanjay Kundu, has highlighted the continuous heavy rainfall across various areas of the state. This weather pattern has raised concerns about potential road collapses, building structural failures, rockslides, landslides, and mudslides. Additionally, there’s a risk of water levels rising in rivers and streams, as well as the possibility of dams discharging water unexpectedly. These circumstances have also put a strain on services, requiring the police force to be on standby.
To ensure the safety of the public, the DGP-HP has issued directives to all district Superintendents of Police in Himachal Pradesh to maintain a state of readiness. Hospitals have also been advised to prepare for any emergencies that might arise.
District SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs have been instructed to provide regular updates to the public through social media and other communication channels about travel and movement within the state during adverse weather conditions.
The general public is strongly urged to stay vigilant and prioritize their safety. Non-essential travel should be avoided until conditions improve.
