In a significant development, the Vigilance team of Shimla Police has arrested Reader, who was working under DSP Vijay Raghuvanshi at the Superintendent of Police office in Shimla. The arrest is linked to case registered at Police Station New Shimla. Sandeep Kumar was accused for taking bribe in lieu to resolve a mater registered under Sections 341, 506, and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s), and 3(1)(za)(A) of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The allegations against the accused reader revolve around his demand for a bribe to settle a case. Following the registration of the case at the Vigilance police station, the accused was removed from his post as a reader and transferred to Police Line Kaithu, Shimla. Despite his reassignment, his arrest by the Vigilance team underscores the severity of the charges against him.
Currently, the accused is in police custody and is being held at the Chota Shimla police station on remand until August 24, 2024. The arrest has raised serious concerns within the department, as it highlights potential corruption issues within the ranks of the police.
