Sudden rise in mercury is causing fast thawing of snow and triggering Avalanches in Himachal Pradesh as five persons with their car had a narrow escape at Dhundi Avalanche prone area of Kullu district on Tuesday,
Police Chief Kullu Gurdev Singh confirmed that an avalanche hit near Dhundi, District Kullu while a car (bearing no . HP 33 – C 2580) was passing through the area. The vehicle along with its five occupants got buried under the snow. In a heroic effort the trapped persons were rescued alive by two constables of H.P. Police within 15 minutes who were posted on the spot to manage traffic
Lahaul-Spiti Administeration advised the people to avoid travel to Manali- Darcha junction of National Highway- 3 as the avalanche had occurred near Snow Gallery Dhundi bridge due to which road was blocked for all types of traffic. However an informal message said that the road is cleared now.
Maximum Temperature in Himachal Pradesh on March 22 was highest of this season as the same jumped to 37.4 degree Celsius in Una, eight degrees above normal, Mandi and Bilaspur 33, Hamirpur 32, Kangra Dharmshala and Nahan 31 each, Chamba and Solan 30, Shimla 23.5, Manali 24.1, Kalpa ( Kinnaur) 21.6 and Keylong (Lahaul-Spiti) 12.6 degrees.
Met Office forcast light rain and snow in isolated places in next two days in mid and High reaches and warning of lightening and thunder showers also issued in foot hills, mid and high reaches in one or two places in next 24 hrs.
