Shimla Police refutes ‘Traffic Chaos’ claims, says majority reached exam centres on Time despite 60,000 tourist vehicles

Shimla, June 23,
The Himachal Pradesh Police, District Shimla, has issued a formal rebuttal in response to reports suggesting that traffic congestion led to many candidates missing the Junior Office Assistant (IT) examination held on Sunday.
The police clarified that despite an unprecedented tourist influx over the extended weekend (June 20–23), comprehensive traffic arrangements ensured smooth movement in the city.
According to the official statement, more than 60,000 tourist vehicles entered Shimla during the period, in addition to local traffic. A total of 189 traffic police personnel, supported by 85 other police officials, were deployed across key traffic points.
The deployment was further reinforced by 25 Traffic Motorcycle Riders and tow-away cranes to address 11 breakdowns and minor accidents reported during the day.
The police also ensured tight security and smooth conduct of the JOA (IT) examination held across 13 centres in Shimla, which saw participation from 4,305 candidates. An additional 140 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order and facilitate the exam.
However, police acknowledged that around 30 candidates were denied entry after reaching the centres post the 10:30 AM cut-off.
Authorities clarified that this action was in accordance with standard procedures followed at all centres.
The statement emphasized that traffic management allowed the majority of candidates to arrive on time and dismissed recent media reports claiming widespread disruption.
