A pickup truck plunged nearly 200 feet into a gorge near Dhandhol in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district on Friday evening, killing all six occupants, including a woman and her 10-year-old son.
The accident occurred around 4.30 pm when the vehicle was returning to the remote Kashapat area after delivering milk at the Dattanagar Milk Plant. The truck landed on the Taklech-Devthi road below and was completely mangled in the crash.
The deceased were identified as driver Ashok Jain (32), Asha Kumari (42), her son Yugal (10), Abhishek Sani (23), Layak Ram (56) and Nitin (23), all residents of Rampur and nearby areas. Asha Kumari, a lecturer at Government Senior Secondary School, Digeh, was travelling with her son to her maternal home in Kashapat.

Police and local residents launched a rescue operation after the accident was reported, but all six occupants had died on the spot. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
Rampur SDM Harsh Amrendra Singh visited the site and said immediate relief would be provided to the bereaved families as per government norms.
The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the Kashapat area, with residents raising concerns over the absence of crash barriers on the accident-prone road. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
