Tourists planning to visit the state on eve of Christmas and New years may find a weather surprise as the Indian Meterogical Department forecasts rain or snow on December 25 in high reaches of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu district.


Issuing Weekly forecast local Spokesperson of IMD started that there are chances of light rain or snow in the high hills of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu from late night of 25th December.

According to forecast issued by inclement weather may prevail on December 25 and December 26.

State is also likely to witness rain or snow in few places on Jan 1 and 2 respectively.

Though chances of white Christmas and new year eve are bleak in tourist destinations like Shimla, Kasauli, Dharamshala but Manali, Kaza and Keylong of Lahaul-Spiti, may get the white mantle.

Also, moderate to dense fog is likely to occur at isolated pockets in low hills and plains of the state and cold wave with dry weather conditions should continue for the next 3 days.

Minimum temperature plummet to season’s lowest as Keylong freezes at minus 7.4 degree Celsius, Kukumseri of Lahual minus 8, Kaza minus 12, Kalpa minus 3.4, Manali minus 0.4, Solan and Mandi Zero degree, Una 3.4, Shimla 4, Kangra 4.6, Chamba 2.6, Hamirpur 2.5 , Bilaspur 5, Dalhousie 4, Kufri 3, and Dharmshala 6 degrees.

Water pipe lines are logged after the Mercury falling below freezing point. Thick layer of frost is also appearing in shaddy and snowline areas. The Coldwave had intensified in the wee hours and night-time. The Natural Ice Skating rink in Shimla is now recording sessions in both morning and evening time.
