Snowfall in Manali: 5.83 inches recorded as cold wave sweeps state

Himachal Pradesh is experiencing an intense cold wave following a fresh spell of rain and snowfall, with temperatures plummeting across the state. Significant snowfall has been recorded in various regions, with Kothi receiving 9.45 inches, Gondla 4.33 inches, and Manali 5.83 inches of snow. Rainfall has also been recorded in Seobagh (0.32 inches), Bhuntar (0.28 inches), and Gohar (0.24 inches).
The lowest temperature was recorded at Taboo, where it dipped to a chilling minus 13.5°C, followed by Kukumseri at minus 12.2°C, and Kalpa at minus 6.2°C. Other areas saw temperatures well below freezing, with Chamba (Dalhousie) at 0.4°C, Mandi at 4.7°C, Kullu (Bhuntar) at -0.2°C, Shimla at 2.8°C, Hamirpur at 2°C, Una at 1.4°C, Kangra (Dharamshala) at 4.8°C, Solan at 5.9°C, Sirmaur (Nahan) at 6.3°C, and Bilaspur at 5.9°C.
Dense fog has been reported in Sundernagar and Mandi, reducing visibility to just 100 meters, causing difficulties for travelers. The weather forecast for the next 24 hours predicts dry conditions, with isolated rain or snow in higher altitudes.
A cold wave warning remains in effect for the next 24 hours, especially in low-lying areas, where dense fog is expected to linger during the early mornings. Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions.
In Lahaul Spiti, a rescue operation was carried out last night by the Police Outpost at Koksar, where two persons stranded in a vehicle near Ropsang Nala were safely rescued.
