Shimla, Oct 16,
St. Edward’s School, Shimla, has added yet another milestone to its storied legacy by being conferred with the prestigious “School of the Year” award in the Vintage Legacy Boys’ Day School category in the Education World India School Rankings (EWISR) 2025–26. The accolade was presented during a grand ceremony in Delhi, recognising the school’s century-long commitment to academic excellence, discipline, co-curricular pursuits, and values-based education.
Founded on March 9, 1925, by the Irish Christian Brothers, St. Edward’s began with just 42 students and a handful of teachers, gradually establishing itself as one of Himachal Pradesh’s premier institutions for boys’ education. Over the decades, the school expanded in size and stature, creating a robust learning environment that blends modern pedagogy with Edwardian traditions. While initially offering boarding facilities, it has since evolved into a day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and continues to cater to students from Nursery through Class XII.
The award comes at a significant time as the school celebrates its centenary year, marking 100 years of nurturing generations of young men under its guiding motto, Lumen Sequere — “Follow the Light.” The centenary celebrations, which began in March 2025, have included a host of commemorative activities such as alumni recollections, interactive student programs, a heritage bicycle rally, and the release of a special anthology, Centenary Tales. The school also unveiled a new logo and produced a tribute anthem, “Follow the Light – A Rock Anthem,” symbolising both its historic legacy and forward-looking vision. Distinguished alumni, include Former Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari, first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Nation Late Gen Bipin Rawat, World bank current president Ajay Banga, Former Supreme court Justice Sanjay Karol among others.
Recognition by Education World highlights the school’s sustained efforts to balance tradition with innovation, nurturing future-ready global citizens while preserving its rich heritage. The EWISR evaluates schools across academic performance, governance, infrastructure, student engagement, co-curricular excellence, and alumni success, making this award a testament to St. Edward’s unwavering dedication to holistic education.
As St. Edward’s steps into its second century, the challenge remains to harmonise its historic values with evolving educational demands. Yet, the “School of the Year” recognition not only celebrates past achievements but also reinforces the school’s mission to remain vibrant, dynamic, and committed to excellence in the years ahead, inspiring students, faculty, and alumni alike, stated a school spokesperson.
