State to explore possibilities of conducting SCA elections at HPU: CM Sukhu

In response to a memorandum submitted by the Student Federation of India (SFI), Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu assured that the state government would explore the possibilities of conducting Student Central Association (SCA) elections at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). This announcement came during the Chief Minister’s recent visit to the HPU campus.
The SFI’s memorandum urged the Chief Minister to lift the ban on SCA elections to restore the democratic setup in universities and educational institutions. The CM stated that discussions with university authorities are underway regarding this matter. He acknowledged that student politics and SCA elections in Himachal Pradesh have historically produced numerous political leaders for the state. However, the ban on student body polls has hindered youth involvement in public life.
The Chief Minister’s visit coincided with the inauguration of a two-day ‘Maitree’ program for HPU alumni, specifically the Decadal Chapter of the 90s. Reflecting on his university days, the CM credited his time at HPU with laying the foundation for his political career.
The government is committed to making Himachal Pradesh a self-reliant state and is taking numerous steps to improve the quality of education in all government-run institutions. Initiatives include the introduction of English medium instruction in government schools starting from class one and the establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in all 68 assembly constituencies in phases, providing state-of-the-art facilities to students.
Moreover, the government plans to introduce innovative changes in the higher education sector, utilizing modern teaching technologies to ensure every student benefits maximally. The Chief Minister also urged students to be noble and responsible citizens, emphasizing the importance of kindness and responsibility
