In a development, the Directorate of Posts has suspended Ambesh Upmanyu, the Chief Post Master General (CPMG) of the Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle. The suspension order, issued from Dak Bhawan in New Delhi, is reportedly in response to allegations of irregularities against Upmanyu. Colonel SFH Rizvi, the current CPMG of the Haryana Postal Circle, has been given additional charge of the Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle.
The allegations against Upmanyu are serious enough to warrant an immediate suspension while the Directorate of Posts conducts a thorough investigation. Despite the high profile of the case, officials within the Postal Department have been tight-lipped about the details.
Bishan Singh, Director Postal Services (Head Quarter and Mail Marketing), confirmed that the suspension was executed at the ministry level but refrained from providing further information, suggesting inquiries be directed to the ministry.
This suspension has sent ripples through the postal department, given the prominent role of the CPMG, who oversees the entire postal circle of the state. Upmanyu, who has previously held significant positions in Gujarat and Agra, now faces an uncertain future pending the outcome of the investigation.
The official website of the Postal Department has already updated Colonel SFH Rizvi’s name as the acting CPMG of Himachal Pradesh.
While the exact nature of the alleged irregularities remains undisclosed, a news agency source suggests that a recent recruitment scam involving fake degrees among village postmasters is not related to Upmanyu’s suspension. Instead, the investigation focuses on other alleged discrepancies. Though the lack of confirmed details has fueled widespread speculation within the department and among the public.
As the Directorate of Posts continues its investigation, the postal community and the public await further developments with bated breath, hoping for a resolution that upholds the integrity of the Indian Postal Services.
