Shimla/ Chaupal, May 1,
A young man and woman who went missing during a challenging trek to the famous Churdhar temple in Himachal Pradesh were rescued safely late Tuesday night, thanks to the prompt action of the police and support from local residents.
The missing tourists—Shubham, a resident of Sector 41, Chandigarh, and Prabhjot from Bathinda, Punjab—lost their way while returning from Churdhar temple via Nauhradhar. Their mobile phones had switched off, adding to the concern. The matter came to light when their friend Dheeraj, also from Chandigarh, contacted the Chaupal police late at night and reported that his friends had gone missing during the return trek.
Acting swiftly, Chaupal Police dispatched a search team and also coordinated with the Nauradhar police post. Sub-Inspector Hemraj, in-charge of the Nauradhar post, was alerted and joined the operation. Assistance from Vicky Sharma, a local resident familiar with the temple area, played a crucial role in the timely tracing of the duo.
According to the Chaupal police station in-charge, the two tourists had strayed from the path due to dense fog and adverse weather conditions. Fortunately, they were found safe and have since been reconnected with their families. Police confirmed that both individuals were in normal health and did not require medical assistance.
Officials reminded tourists to exercise caution while trekking to Churdhar, especially during inclement weather. Notably, this is not the first such incident in the region. Just last month, a youth from Panchkula lost his life after going missing during a similar journey.
Sub-Inspector Hemraj of Nauhradhar Police Station confirmed, “Both the missing persons have been rescued safely with combined efforts. We urge all visitors to remain alert and travel in groups.”
Churdhar continues to attract spiritual seekers, but its difficult terrain demands careful planning and preparation.
