Shimla, Jan 17
Ten days after the first Jan spell of snowfall, traffic could not be restored beyond Haripurdhar on the main road connecting Chaupal to sub-divisional headquarters Sangrah.
Although traffic has already been restored by the department on Sangrah-Gattadhar, Haripurdhar-Nowhradhar and Sangrah-Nauradhar roads which were closed due to snowfall, but due to snowfall up to 3 feet on Chaupal road, the department has taken more time to restore traffic. .
“The main reason for the non-resumption of traffic on the Sangrah-Chouhan road even after a week is understood to be three feet of snow here, three consecutive snowfalls and the department does not have snow cutters,” inform locals.
In the absence of a single snow cutter in the Public Works Department, Mandal Sangrah, not only does it take more time to restore the traffic on snow-affected roads, but there is also a danger of uprooting of the paved road due to the removal of snow through JCB. The Panchayat representatives of the area demanded the administration and the government to restore the traffic at the earliest.
According to the information, snow has to be removed from a total of 10 kilometers of this road, out of which 6 and a half kilometer comes under Sangrah division and other part belongs to Chaupal division. Snow has been removed by the Public Works Department from about four and a half kilometer part of Sangrah Mandal.
Executive Engineer Sangrah Ratan Sharma said that under the Sangrah division, 4 and a half kilometer of the closed road has been removed and only two kilometers of snow is left to be removed.
