Una sizzling at 44.5 Celcius has broken the record for the highest temperature in the past ten years, the Met Office said.
The spokesperson of Shimla Met Office said that before this, Una recorded the highest 45.2 degrees on May 31, 2012, and May 13, 2013. She noted that Una was 44.5 degrees celsius on Monday, which is the highest in the past nine years. Una also recorded the highest at 44 Celsius on Sunday. Mercury was four to five degrees above normal as it was 42 at Bilaspur, near 40.5 in Kangra and Hamirpur, Chamba and Sundernagar 38, Dharmshala and Solan 35, Dalhousie (Chamba) 26.8, Kalpa(Kinnaur) 24, Kufri 18 and Keylong(Lahaul-Spiti 16.4.
Light rain showers lashed a few parts of Solan and Shimla as windstorms with speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour hit this afternoon, giving respite from the heatwave.
