Solan, Oct 9,
An Uttarakhand Transport Corporation bus (UK04PA1716) overturned near Kandaghat due to brake failure, leaving 35 passengers injured. The bus was traveling from Shimla to Tanakpur and was packed with nearly 60 passengers at the time of the accident.
Out of the injured, three passengers sustained serious injuries and have been referred to Shimla’s IGMC, while two others have been taken to the Regional Hospital in Solan for treatment.
Local police and residents promptly arrived at the scene to assist in transporting the injured to the government hospital in Kandaghati. The incident has once again raised concerns about the increasing number of accidents on National Highway 5. Reportedly over the past nine months, there have been 140 accidents along this route, resulting in 14 fatalities and injuries to more than 250 people. The stretch between Parwanoo and Kaithlighat is particularilu concerning for frequent accidents, with almost daily reports of mishaps.
One of the passengers on the bus reported that the vehicle was speeding when the brakes suddenly failed, causing the bus to overturn. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident.
