A Uzbekistan National was arrested today by the Sirmaur police for allegedly staying in India without valid travel documentation. A case has been registered under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act at Police Station Sadar Nahan, and further investigation is underway.
According to police officials, the action followed information received through the 112 emergency helpline on the night of January 22. The caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked near the scissors turn ahead of Shaktinagar in the Nahan area, with a young man and a woman inside.
Acting swiftly on the information, a police team rushed to the spot and found a vehicle bearing registration number UP-16-EF-7194 stuck in a roadside drain on the Link Road at Joganwali, Nahan. During preliminary questioning, the driver identified himself as Saif Kwezilbash, son of the late Agha Abbas Qasim Kwezilbash, a resident of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The woman accompanying him stated that she was a citizen of Uzbekistan.
During verification, the woman failed to produce a valid passport or visa permitting her stay in India. Consequently, she was taken into custody and brought to the Nahan police station for further questioning.
Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, N.S. Negi confirmed that a case has been registered against the woman under the relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act. He said that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which she entered and stayed in the country, as well as to verify any other possible violations of law.
