Western disturbance fails to break dry streak in Himachal, light snow, rain anticipated end month
Shimla, Jan 27,
Mainly dry weather conditions continue to persist in all tourist-favorite towns of Himachal Pradesh. An ongoing Western disturbance hovers over the state, affecting places like Shimla, Manali, Narkanda, and Dharamshala. However, despite isolated places in the high reaches receiving mild snowfall in the past 24 hours, the partly cloudy skies haven’t provided much relief from the dry spell.
Kothi in Kullu and Bharmour in Chamba witnessed the most snowfall, accumulating 2.5 cm in the past two days. Kukamseri, Gondala, and the North portal of the Rohtang Tunnel in Lahaul Spiti also experienced light snowfall confined to the higher reaches.
The rest of the state witnessed partly cloudy skies accompanied by sunshine, leading to a two-degree increase in minimum temperatures over the past 24 hours. Under the influence of the clouds, shallow fog and chilly weather persisted only through the night and early morning hours.
Daytime temperatures experienced a marginal rise, staying above 16 degrees in most tourist destinations. Dry conditions are expected to continue until January 30, with a possibility of light rain and snowfall in some high-altitude areas on January 31.
The first week of February might bring light to moderate rain and snow in a few places of the mid and high reaches, while the foothills are likely to remain mainly dry. Isolated places in the midhills could see mild to light rain and snowfall on January 28, 30, and February 1.
Average maximum temperatures are expected to be normal to above normal, while minimum temperatures are predicted to remain normal in the next week.
Minimum temperatures saw an increase over the past 24 hours, with Keylong and Kaza hovering around minus seven to ten degrees Celsius. Kukumesri recorded minus six degrees, Kalpa in Kinnaur minus 3.5 degrees, and popular tourist destinations Narkanda and Manali saw minus two and minus 1.5 degrees respectively.
Mandi’s minimum temperature was recorded at 0.9 degrees, Una at three degrees, Dalhousie and Solan at two degrees, Shimla at four degrees, Kangra at 4.6 degrees, Dharmshala at five degrees, Jubberhati at 6.6 degrees, and Nahan at seven degrees.
Overall, while scattered snowfall brought a touch of winter magic to some places, Himachal Pradesh largely remained dry, eagerly awaiting a change in weather patterns. Light rain and snowfall are on the horizon, offering hope for a much-needed break from the prolonged dry spell.
