Wild Rescue: Leopard pair saved from tank trap”
Shimla, October 11
In a dramatic rescue operation near Kohan, in Junga tehsil of Shimla district two adventurous leopards found themselves in a tight spot. The trouble began when a male and a female leopard spotted a tempting but ill-fated opportunity – a deceased monkey within a private tank. The tank, approximately 12 to 15 feet deep, held no water, leaving the feline duo struggling to escape.
Their repeated attempts to leap out of the tank only resulted in them tumbling back in, causing evident disappointment. Eventually, both leopards decided to spend the night within the confines of the inescapable tank.
The fortunate turn of events came when a Nepali servant from a nearby garden shared this curious predicament with the locals. Forest guard Rohit Sharma swiftly sprang into action, coordinating with his team to craft a daring plan for their rescue. Company Commander of Home Guard Junga, Dinesh Thakur, and his dedicated team also joined the mission.
With the owner’s permission, a bold decision was made to break the tank walls after previous attempts with wooden sleepers proved futile. A JCB was summoned to assist in this daring endeavor. As the tank’s walls crumbled, relief and elation swept over Rohit Sharma and his team when the leopards were safely freed from their unusual ordeal.
