The normally peaceful tourist favorite town Manali on Thursday shock after recovery of a dead body, wrapped from a case(box) while the accused was about to flee from the spot. Police Chief Kullu Dr. Gokulchandran Karthikeyan said that one female tourist from Madhya Pradesh was allegedly murdered by her companion of Haryana in Manali on Wednesday. He informed that a call was received at about 2000hrs that a person was trying to put a heavy bag around three feet long in a taxi and was carrying out suspicious activities. He said that the person fled from the spot before the police arrived.
He said, “The police found the body of the female. The details of her companion could not be ascertained from the records of the hotel where they were staying and even the CCTV of the hotels were not functioning.”
The SP said that it was a case of blind murder but the police was able to locate the alleged suspect in Kullu. He said that Vinod Thakur (23) of Haryana was detained on suspicion. He said that the duo had come to Manali three days back. Adding, that the relationship between the duo was not ascertained yet and family members of the victim had been informed. He said that investigation was being carried out to ascertain how he committed the crime and the cause for the brutal step. He added that a case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC and further investigations were underway.
The SP who was on the spot said that a mutilated body of a deceased woman was recovered by the police on the complaint of hotel staff on Wednesday. He said that the staff of the hotel became suspecting when they realised that only the male checked out from the hotel room whereas they had checked in a couple, the previous night. The accused succeed to fled from the spot however he was arrested at Jhiri from Haryana.
SP said that the couple had come to Manali on May 13, wherein the stayed in a hospitality unit at Gompa Road. According to preliminary verification of Adhaar the man was identified as
Vinod and the deceased as Sheetal.
As per eye witnesses the hotel staff while putting the bag with the dead body inside it found it very heavy. On becoming suspicious, they informed the police. Meanwhile, the accused fled from the spot. While the police searched, Sheetal’s body was found in the bag. The deceased woman was a resident of Madhya Pradesh. The police is investigating the matter.
