Nahan, November 5
Visitors would soon be able to see the Royal Bengal Tiger pair, Bajirao and Mastani, at the Renukaji Mini Zoo, with the zoo authorities completing preparations to open their newly constructed modern enclosure to the public.
The enclosure will be inaugurated by Renukaji MLA Vinay Kumar at 2 pm on Tuesday. He will also address a public meeting at the Kubja Pavilion. The Wildlife Department said that all preparations for the inauguration have been completed.
According to Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Bhat, Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife), Shimla, the department has decided to charge Rs 40 per adult visitor and Rs 20 per child for viewing the tigers. The ticketing system will be operated through an agency, for which tenders have been invited. The tenders will be opened on November 12.
The opening of the enclosure will end a wait of nearly one and a half months for visitors since the arrival of the tiger pair at Renukaji on September 20.
After a gap of nearly 12 years, the Royal Bengal Tiger pair was brought to Renukaji from the Wildlife Zoo at Gorewada, Nagpur, Maharashtra. The animals covered a distance of around 1,900 kilometres in 41 hours under a special escort. The male tiger was named Bajirao and the female Mastani.
The newly developed enclosure has been equipped with modern facilities, including indoor shelters, open outdoor spaces, feeding cubicles and other essential arrangements to ensure proper care and management of the animals. A wildlife treatment centre has also been established for regular health examinations, monitoring and emergency medical care.

The Wildlife Department expects the tiger pair to emerge as a major attraction for tourists visiting Renukaji, which is already known for its natural beauty, religious heritage and wildlife. The lion safari at the destination has also remained a popular attraction among visitors for nearly two decades.
The department believes that opening the tiger enclosure will further strengthen Renukaji’s position on Himachal Pradesh’s wildlife tourism map.
