Shimla, Feb 26
As many as 33 students who were stranded in Ukraine are being evacuated to Delhi and Mumbai through airports outside of Ukraine and efforts were being made to facilitate the rest of the stranded students soon this was stated by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while giving a statement in the state assembly on Saturday.
He said that conflict and war between Russia and Ukraine is a matter of concern for the entire world but from hills state around 130 students of Himachal Pradesh have been stranded in Ukraine and this number may go up. A letter written to External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on Friday urging the Union government to make emergency arrangements to early evacuation of stranded. He said that state was informed that efforts are being made through air and land routes to bring back the Indians stranded in Ukraine. He said that 15 students are returning from Mumbai and 17 to Delhi airport.
The External affairs ministry is trying to evacuate them through Hungary, Romania and Serbia and other border countries of Ukraine. The RTPCR testing is being done at the airport and at Himachal Bhawan. HRTC and Himachal Tourism buses are waiting outside Himachal Bhawan to bring the students to the state. Asha Kumari said that the Government should make arrangements to rescue and evacuate students from Kyiv as many of them who left for air flights before the city was bombarded on Thursday are now keenly waiting for evacuation.
