Ex-MLA Neeraj Bharti declares war on own father, Congress Govt in open social media showdown

In an extraordinary public fallout that has rocked the political corridors of Himachal Pradesh, former Congress MLA and ex-Chief Parliamentary Secretary Neeraj Bharti has launched a blistering attack on his own father, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar, and the Congress-led state government headed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The storm began Wednesday evening when Bharti posted a sharply worded message on social media alleging that middlemen had taken control of the government, sidelining elected representatives. He claimed that BJP-affiliated individuals were getting their work done through brokers in the Congress government while Congress workers remained ignored. Bharti said he had a heated confrontation with his father over developments in their home constituency, Jawali.

“Let people speculate as they like. I don’t know which MLAs might resign tomorrow. But today, I had a fierce argument with my father over issues related to the Jawali constituency. I told him that if only BJP people’s work is to be done, then resign from the ministerial post. Remain an MLA if you want, or consult the Congress workers of your constituency on whether you should continue as MLA at all,” he wrote.

He further alleged that his father was silently watching while certain middlemen were “taking money and getting BJP people’s work done.” Bharti warned that if the infiltration of such brokers was not stopped in Jawali, Minister Chander Kumar would have no choice but to resign after meeting the Chief Minister the following day.

However, this statement did not go down well with Bharti. By Thursday evening, he returned to social media with another stinging post—this time accusing his father of betraying party workers and trying to distance himself from transfer politics to save face.

“When you’re in the opposition, you tell party-aligned employees facing harsh transfers that they’ll be adjusted when the Congress returns to power. But when that time comes, leaders like you give the excuse that you’re not here for transfers. These kinds of statements are meant to save one’s own skin,” Bharti wrote.

He claimed that many Congress supporters had suffered under BJP rule and were now watching BJP workers get their transfers reversed while loyal Congress workers continued to be ignored.

“The importance of transfers is clear—every Congress worker who comes to you comes with transfer-related pleas. The helplessness of your chair may be yours. Mine is not. I didn’t expect you to humiliate me through this interview. This is not a personal fight or about property. This is a battle for thousands and lakhs of Congress workers and cannot be fought behind closed doors,” he said.

In his closing lines, Bharti issued an ultimatum—demanding that the transfer orders favouring BJP workers be cancelled. “If not, I will openly fight—against you and against your government—even if I have to do it alone. For now, enjoy your ministerial chair,” he wrote.

The unprecedented father-son conflict has triggered intense political chatter and renewed focus on internal discord within the ruling Congress. Bharti’s candid posts, openly questioning the moral authority of his father and the government, have thrown the Congress party into damage-control mode. With both sides holding their ground, it remains to be seen how Chief Minister Sukhu will respond to this public outburst from within his own ranks.
